Battle Blades

A physics-based platform fighter for the original Gameboy, featuring both a single player mode and link cable co-op. The game works on real hardware, the link cable co-op works in BGB at least, but it's not known if the link cable co-op also works on real hardware since I don't own a second Gameboy advance or link cable.

In this game you play as a gyro, trying to knock the other gyro out of the arena. The rules are simple. If your gyro knocks the opponent gyro out of the arena, they lose a life and respawn, if the opponent gyro knocks your gyro out of the arena you lose a life and respawn. Lose all your lives and you've lost the match.

In super smash bros, movements are quick and precise. In Battle Blades, they're momentum based. Every time a gyro rams into another gyro from the side, they exchange speeds, resulting in chaotic matches as both gyros fight to stay in the arena. The gyros can dash to recover, but only once in the air and then they have to wait until they're on the ground to be able to dash again.

Controls:

start - pauses (only pauses in single-player mode)

select - resets back to title screen if paused or if the match is over

left or right - moves left or right

left or right + B - dashes horizontally

up - dashes up

down - dashes down

A - jumps

make sure that both Gameboys are on the title screen and connected with the link cable before entering co-op mode and don't disconnect the link cable in the middle of a co-op match, because this game has no error handling at all.
